Last weekend I attended my first blogger conference in Austin with Thrive. Y'all I had so much fun learning about the blogging industry. So I was inspired to write this post because I got a lot questions from other bloggers asking if I enjoyed the conference and what I learned. One of the goals for 2018 was attend a blogger conference and learn more about the industry. I am a new blogger and going to celebrate my one year anniversary in April, super excited and simply grateful! Some of my reasons for attending was to be around other bloggers and hear their story. Each blogger has a different point of view and their story will be different then mine but we can learn from the experts. Being a part of a blogging community is a bonus.
Connect with other bloggers. Truth be told that's my favorite part is being able to meet other bloggers. One of my best friends is Terra. We met at New York fashion week, and have since become very good friends. I knew we would have a blast together because we are both mama's and she just gets me. We laughed til 3 am and it felt like I've known her my whole life. That's the beauty and honestly the power of social media. You are able to meet like minded girl-friends that become your real friends. I am so blessed God put her in my life. Terra is full of wisdom, simply a genuine and beautiful soul. I met so many other bloggers that have a passion for what they do but more importantly they want others to succeed. I love how a conference can empower us to meet new friends, mentors, biggest cheer leaders and someone you can share a meal with and simply LAUGH!
Meet Industry Experts. The wealth of information I was taught was incredible. From runninig a successful Instagram to using Pinterest to drive traffic to your site. Did y'all know that Pinterest is a SEO, not just a cute place to pin fun things. Well honestly I have been using Pinterest all wrong. Lol. There were so many other topics that the conference covered and I was able to learn from the best. I loved the topics about knowing your brand and how to create a brand. Also how to manage your time more efficiently. What is time blocking? Genius idea, being able to put your schedule into order and working on one task for a few hours. I really needed this because I feel like I'm working on 10 tasks at a time and nothing gets finished. I will be rearranging my reschedule starting with time blocking and being fully present with one task at a time. This mama needs major help, looking into hiring a virtual assistant in the near future. I was able to write down my "it" girl and who is my ideal client and how I can service them. What experiences do you bring that can be valuable to your ideal audience...regardless of where you are in your blogging journey there is only one of you and the way you will speak will be different then any other influencer.
Networking. Thrive conference had booths with many sponsors and where we were able to go and chat with them. It gave me an opportunity to connect with the brands and hear there mission. Each brand is looking for different types of influencers to represent there brand and to be able to talk to them directly was awesome. There is something an email can't do, human contact is much more exciting and personal. We are able to exchange business cards and meet the social media managers that handle the brands PR. It gave me confidence to go and talk to the brands and get out of my comfort zone. Networking is key if you want to be a successful blogger.
Confidence. My first blogger conference gave me confidence to move forward and purpose for why I started blogging in the first place. The two days I had to myself without my kids where I can focus, dream and establish a vision for my blog was worth every penny. I was a little nervous attending the conference because I consider myself an expert in fashion and styling, but not blogging. The conference gave me a perspective that I don't need to know everything about the blogging industry today. To simply take one day at a time and do the hard things. Reach out to those dream brands, offer them my perspective why they should work with me. Write more blog posts about my passions and don't let fear control my life. I will never be able to live out my dream if I don't step out of my comfort zone.
I believe going to a blogger conference is a wise investment. Don't let money get in the way of learning from the best and meeting your next best friend. It might be awkward the first few minutes but once you start sharing your story and connecting with other bloggers I can promise you will be so glad you came. The connections and friendships I was able to make is something I will cherish forever. I am a big believer in supporting other women. Don't let fear set you back from living out your most beautiful life. You never know the next connection you can make...and what you can learn from industry experts.
